Erica Bindom Lathan joined Melchiode Marks King LLC in 2018 as an associate. Practicing law since 2010, Erica litigates in various practice areas, including insurance defense, insurance coverage disputes, general tort litigation, and subrogation. Prior to joining MMK, Erica’s experience included environmental and toxic tort litigation, personal injury, construction litigation, and premises liability. In addition, Erica has handled legal issues relating to special education compliance, charter school board governance, and advising charter schools on operations.
Erica previously served as a law clerk to the Hon. Veronica E. Henry of the First City Court for the Parish of Orleans and the Hon. Roland L. Belsome of the Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal in New Orleans, Louisiana. Additionally, prior to practicing law, Erica worked as a higher education administrator at the University of New Orleans and Tulane University.
Erica earned her J.D. in 2010 from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, where she received the Law in Excellence Award for earning the highest grade in Moot Court. During her law school tenure, she served as a member of the Moot Court Staff and as a teaching assistant for Legal Research & Writing and Moot Court. Erica also competed in the National First Amendment Moot Court Competition, held annually at Vanderbilt University, as the brief writer and oralist.
In her free time, Erica enjoys exercising, crafting, and cooking. She is actively involved with her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., where she volunteers in endeavors aimed to end childhood hunger and provide educational enrichment to local students.
